The LUNA Modular AFO was designed and created by Aaron Nguyen.

LUNA Modular AFO has been under active development for a little over a year and a half. The project started development as a part of Aaron’s final year industrial design project while studying at RMIT. Growing up with two relatives with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), he was unaware of the problems children and their families face with traditional thermoplastic orthoses until his aunty asked if he could develop a better solution. As an industrial designer, he used his knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to come to a solution. However, also working with biomechanical engineers, orthotists, osteopaths and physiotherapists for their professional advice.

In 2021, the LUNA Modular AFO was selected as the National Winner of the 2021 James Dyson Award (Australia).
